Метод решения плоских и отчасти осе-симметр. задач формоизменения, основ, на использ. св-в хар-к — кривых, являющ. решением хар-ристич. ур-ния типа Ad2y - 2Bdxdy + + Cd x = 0. Это ур-ние имеет обычные производные и получено преобразованием ур-ний в частных производных, описыв. плоское течение металла при допущении пропорц. м-ду приращениями деформации и напряжениями и неупрочняемости несжим, материала. Для построения хар-к применяются аналитич., вычислит, и графич. м. Поле хар-к обладает простыми геометрич. св-вами, облегч. его построение. Хар-ки обладают всеми св-вами линий скольжения.
